While reflecting into childhood in Nova Scotia, I remember the beauty of the scenery, the smell of the sea water in the air and the Black Flies, I can't say that I miss! But most of all, I remember that being on U.I.C. made an individual eligible for a Home Mortgage Loan!
Why?  Cause that was considered a definate income annnually due to seasonal labor. Seasonal Labor that depended on Natural Resources and Manual Labor.

The Maritime Provinces of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and let's not forget to mention "Dem dere Rock People" in Newfoundland, just a bunch of Fishermen, Woodsmen and Farmers. Otherwords, folks who made a living off of their natural enviroment and sole resources because Industry was a fantasy word. Who wanted to invest in "nowhere land"?
Military Bases, as always, begin the base of population. This was sometimes a method used by our Government as a means of generating industry and population in remote areas.
Dense with trees and rolling hills, descending down into the east coastline, the maritimes, remained the same. Unpopulated, unindustrialized, rustic, down home beauty at it's best!
With Tourism becoming one of Canada's top ten industries, the beauty of the Maritime Provinces became promoted and exposed.

Point being, that by emphazising a specific theme, even the "poorest" of provinces, pulled out from under!
When reading a posting within Canadian Neighbors (a Free Member's Group) by a Realtor who was selling a Lot for $239,000.oo!!
My first thought was "the nerve of that fraudulant ....." and investigated sites with Maritime Real Estate to pursue the fraudulant claim, only to end up near falling off my chair!
Upon further research, I came across areas I knew of, where they had been a population of 48 people, to find population at 500, with a website and great promos to boot!

As a Nova Scotian born Canadian, my heart knows the beauty and grace that the Maritimes in general, has to offer.
New Brunswick, with it's covered bridges, ferries in place of bridges, magnetic hills, water falls and dense forests, one wants to stay and explore the beauty and experience the adventure!
Nova Scotia, (I'll try and remain bias) with it's coastline of beaches, unique fishing towns each with specialty Diners, smiling staff, mouth-watering menus, accomodated with pride filled down-home cooking, wildlife, dense forests and winding roads that only inevidibly, lead to the ocean... one feels at home!
Prince Edward Island, is a private little place all it's very own. The island itself portrays one big playground, no matter the season. Miles and miles of sandy beaches and rust colored sand dunes that blend into the ocean or miles and miles of snow drifts up to your waist, that blend into the icy ocean and sky. During the summer season, it's not uncommon to walk barefoot along the sandy shores, to suddenly realize "how time flies" and just how far you have to walk back!
There's something about the sea-wind in your hair and your barefeet along the beach that makes you feel at one with all that's around you.
Newfoundland, so amazingly different in terrain, on a higher sea level, with soaring cliffs and fiords that tower over the ocean, leaves you humble with the majestic impact of nature. Solitude in it's mass, Newfoundland offers unique heritage combined with modern tech. Still known for it's Screech and the heritage that evolved from this baron land, it became known worldwide due to european roots. The Canadian "rock" has much to be discovered and explored. It's the kinda place you always want to return to for another adventure in time.
Labrador a territory for "wilderness survivors" and hunters during season. This undeveloped territory with waterways and rock, is truly a retreat for those who seek solitude for serenity.
Hunter's delight and recluses for those who seek to be "at one with the land". Labrador leaves much to the inquisitive mind.

No matter which Maritime Province you visit, ocean coastal lines are abundant or not far!
