Home About Us Archives Articles Business Classified Ads Home Decor Internet Ave.'s Newsletters Property Trix ![]() Archives | Village Herald Search | Small Town Bullies - Part Two by: Heather K. Hazen. The "Why" of ... Bullies could detail months of Articles for the Herald, so we'll generalize the basics all into this one chapter of part two. Bullies, like we've mentioned, come in all shapes and forms. It could be your local Joe Blow or Jane from down the lane. It could be your neighbor, who has longtime standing in the communtiy or it could be those in politics and aquaintances of. First and foremost, Bullies thrive on "Dominance". It's where they can poke their nose and be the center of attention. It's where they can have their say and demonstrate their "dominance" Yes, in this day and age, what you are about to read still occurs. It occurs in "unattended and unadvancing" areas. Most times, the reason for non advancement is because of how the area is "dominated". Otherwords, lower class mentality. Harsh? I think not! What's harsh, is the igmorance that is imposed upon innocent and well intending individuals This was and still is a problem, when "New-Comers" come into a small community. Often enough, each Party is trying to demonstrate "who" they are. The Newcomer, who is trying to get acquainted with New Neighbors and establish "who" they are. And the Bullies, who want the Newcomers to know who they are and that they make the rules. Squeeling tires, loud music or simply Loud Mouthed are the three sure ways to immediately clarify who is who. Cases of serious Vandalism have been reported, but the "Who Done It" never gets resolved. Cases of Confrontations have been known to arise and Policing is often kms away. TownFolk, already know too well "what" will happen if they don't keep quiet, so they turn a blind eye. Consequently, there's no witnesses and almost nine times on ten, there's nothing the law can do by the time they show up. What then? |
Sadly enough, after 3-6 months, most folks move, even if they can't afford to and that's a sad reality for some young parents who are attempting to make roots and establish their family.
It is always wise, when prospecting a move into a rural community, to visit, not just during the day, but in the evening as well!
We've heard horror stories about deprived mentalities in deprived communities that would appaul todays society! Point being, that communities, who remain dormat, need "new ideas" by "new faces".
This does not neccessarily mean that a flood of NewComers should invade a quiet community, not by all means.
Sometimes, it's something as simple as hiring a Consultant to "revamp" a theme that Compliments the Community Residence. It takes a Dream and a Plan to get motivated!
When a Plan is initiated, this creates enthusiasm and anticipation towards a goal, all of which pronounce positive progress.
The first step in eleviating stagnet and doormat mentality, is to hire a Consultant. More than often, what the Consultant might say,
is what some of the Young Adults of the Community have said. This is where good Community Leadership comes into play. IF a Community is in denial of "what won't be there after they decease" you've got trouble.
Some Longstanding Municipal Governments, with established roots in a Community, sometimes hinder progress for their own Youth. This is especially true, when the ideals per say, are not the ideals of the longstanding Municipal Government.
When Young Adults attempt to hold their roots in a Communtiy and present their ideas for the future (of which the older Officials will not see the outcome of)
they are too often "shut down" by the dominance of their Peers.
This leaves nothing for the Youth. No new opportunities, no new doors, no room for advancement and no other choice but to move away to stabalize their future!
TSK TSK! Shame on You!
Shame on Me and shame to anybody who allows this to go on in their Community.
It's no wonder the Youth run away, no new investors take an interest in the Community - too difficult and unco-operative to deal with and no "room" for advancement.
